Len Lye Centre is paying tribute to the life and career of Sir Sam Neill with a series of special screenings this August. The acclaimed New Zealand actor died unexpectedly in a Sydney hospital on Monday, aged 78.

The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery / Len Lye Centre will show four of Neill's most celebrated films, kicking off on Saturday 1 August with back-to-back screenings of the 1989 psychological thriller Dead Calm and the 1990 comedy Death in Brunswick.

On Sunday 2 August, the cinema will screen Perfect Strangers and My Brilliant Career, the latter being a 1979 Australian drama that helped launch his international career.

The programme concludes on Thursday 6 August with Steven Spielberg's 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park, featuring Neill in his iconic role as Dr Alan Grant.

Tributes have been flowing following the loss of the actor, whose career spanned more than five decades.

Neill was awarded the Screen Legend Award at the 2025 New Zealand Screen Awards just last year in recognition of his extensive contribution to the industry.
