The crescent-shaped Ōpunakē beach is a popular stop along Surf Highway 45 and a busy destination with families over the summer. The sheltered, sandy beach has good facilities for beachgoers including picnic tables, barbecues, a playground, a splash pool, and ample parking.

The beach is patrolled on weekends and public holidays during the summer months and there are also professional Lifeguards working during the school holidays.

The nearby Ōpunakē loop track should also be on your to-do list and the adjacent Ōpunakē Beach Kiwi Holiday Park is the ideal spot to pitch your tent and enjoy the beach for a few days.
