I’ve been interested in pottery for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until 2010 that I left an office job to pursue a full-time career in ceramics. No formal training for me, after all this time I consider myself still learning the complex interaction between making, glazing and firing in the kiln. There are so many variables involved and it means I look forward to each glaze firing with a mix of excitement and trepidation as I’m never 100% certain of what the results will be.
My work is well known for the vibrant glazes I make myself, in jewel colours like sapphire, emerald, and ruby, and I texture the clay so that the glazes run and pool to create interesting flow.
My work has been shown at many exhibitions throughout New Zealand as well as overseas.
I am from Waitara in North Taranaki. I now live in Bell Block, 10 minutes north of New Plymouth, and work full time as a ceramic artist at my studio and showroom at the Bell Block shops.
