Damaged wastewater pipe causes sewer overflow in Waitara

An overflow in Waitara caused by a damaged wastewater pipe resulted in a sewage discharge from the Richmond Pump station

An overflow in Waitara caused by a damaged wastewater pipe resulted in a sewage discharge from the Richmond Pump station on Wednesday (11 February).

The discharge started at an unknown time this morning and has not reached any water bodies and is being contained within ground areas. Technicians and maintenance contractors are on-site cleaning and sanitising the site.

We're sorry the overflow has occurred, we've been in touch with iwi and hapū, Taranaki Regional Council and Health New Zealand Taranaki.

We are investing $289m over 10 years to 2034 to fix the district's plumbing.
