More than 200 tyres have been illegally dumped in Tapuae Stream and on the beach — despite free disposal being available.

😡🛞 Taranaki Regional Council's compliance team has been dealing with more than 200 tyres dumped in the Tapuae Stream and on Tapuae Beach. Around 150 tyres were dumped in the stream (about three trailer loads) from the bridge on Plymouth Road in Omata around February 12th. Fortunately, officers were able to recover them before heavy rain arrived which would have washed them downstream.

The second incident was before January 20th when around 55 tyres were recovered from the beach and the stream's mouth.

This could have been avoided simply by using the Tyre Wise programme which provides for the free disposal of tyres at transfer stations.
