The Sustainable Backyards Trail invites you behind the garden gate to explore a diverse collection of 19 private sustainable gardens across Taranaki. Meet passionate local hosts, share ideas, discover natural gardening techniques and get inspired to try something new at home.
Whether you're a beginner gardener, experienced grower, keen to grow more of your own food or simply looking for practical ideas for a more sustainable backyard, there's something to discover.
How does it work?
Simply turn up during the advertised opening hours and sign in. One person can sign in on behalf of your group. Entry is $3 cash or you can use a Backyard Bundle Card (5 Backyards and 3 pkts of seeds). Under 12's are free. Bundle cards available from the EnviroHub, Puke Ariki isite, Stratford isite and Hāwera isite.
Garden hosts will be around to welcome you, answer questions and share a few tips and stories about their backyard.
Some hosts are running talks or workshops and there are feature events. These have limited spaces, so online registration via Humanitix is required.
