The new pedestrian space around the Queen Street Cenotaph is complete, with seating, planting and safety improvements in place.

🌴 Finishing touches are complete for the new pedestrian space around the Cenotaph on Queen Street, with planter boxes, seating, bollards and road markings now in place.

The road has reopened in one direction, with entry open to left-turning traffic from St Aubyn Street.

The temporary changes, co-funded by NZTA Waka Kotahi, are designed to improve safety for pedestrians, drivers and visitors to the War Memorial.

After 12 months, a report will be provided to elected members containing road user data, public feedback and behavioural observations that will inform future decisions on the site.
