The state-of-the-art East Wing Building at Taranaki Base Hospital has begun welcoming patients, bringing critical services like the Emergency Department and Maternity under one roof.

The new East Wing Building at Taranaki Base Hospital, Te Rau Mātāpuna o Taranaki, has started welcoming new patients and visitors through its doors.

This six-floor, 22,000sqm, state-of-the-art facility brings together critical and acute services under one roof, including the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Radiology, Laboratory, and Maternity and Neonatal services.

Health NZ Taranaki said it's a place for care, comfort and support - improving access to vital services and bringing high-quality care closer to home for generations to come.

“It’s incredible to see how far we’ve come on this journey, and we’re proud to share this moment with our community.”

Hospital teams are busy moving into their new spaces.

The Maternity and Neonatal units moved into Level 2 of the new building on Monday, and the old maternity entrance is no longer in use.

Today, the Radiology team started welcoming the department’s first patients in their new space, located on Level 0.

“Our friendly team will be there to guide you every step of the way” Health NZ said in a statement.
