Police NewsCrime New Plymouth
Police have arrested two people locally and detained four others in Hamilton following a serious assault on a sleeping occupant at a Tumai Street property.

At around 10:30pm, several people entered a house on Tumai Street and assaulted an occupant of the house while they slept.

Detective Sergeant Chris Allemann says that person sustained serious injuries, and was transported to hospital for treatment.

Further enquiries were made with the assistance of a Police Dog Unit, and two alleged offenders were located and arrested nearby.

A vehicle believed to be linked to those involved had left the area and was tracked to an address in Hamilton where a further four people were taken into custody.

Police believe this was an isolated incident and there is not any further risk to the public following this distressing event.

As enquiries continue, Police are appealing for information from anybody in Tumai Street and the surrounding areas who noticed any suspicious activity around 10:30pm.

Police can be contacted via 105.

An 18-year-old man is due to appear in the New Plymouth District Court today, charged with aggravated burglary and possessing a knife in a public place.

A female will also appear in Youth Court.

Charges against the four people located in Hamilton are being considered.

Good work - 6 arrested 👏 that was fast - not knowing the details makes it hard to comment but if the others are not getting charged the main guy better get such a hefty sentence they dont dare talk about doing stuff like this again- can we introduce mma gym punishments - make him go through a shark training session at city kick boxing then arrest him again

We need more Police so why not use Security Guards who may have powers to arrest and detain then hand over to Police. No one is listening maybe,

"Charges are being considered". Take a leaf out of most USA states book and give em about 5 years in the can. As usual they will get a slap with a wet bus ticket if that.

It's essential to let the authorities handle the investigation and not jump to conclusions.
