New Plymouth Airport has been recognised on the international stage, receiving a Silver award in the Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific & Middle East Green Airports Recognition 2026 programme for Climate Change Adaptation.
The award recognises airports leading the way in environmental resilience and sustainable infrastructure, with New Plymouth Airport acknowledged alongside major international airports including Auckland International Airport, Melbourne Airport and even larger Asia-Pacific and the Middle East terminals.
The recognition reflects the airport’s ongoing investment in renewable energy and sustainability initiatives, including its growing renewable energy ecosystem, solar infrastructure, EV charging network, and energy resilience projects.
CEO David Scott said the achievement was a proud moment for both the airport and the wider Taranaki community.
“Being recognised alongside major international airports for our work in climate change adaptation is something we are genuinely proud of. New Plymouth Airport is punching well above its weight, and we are just getting started.”
The Green Airports Recognition programme attracted 33 submissions from across the region this year and highlights airports developing innovative solutions to respond to climate-related challenges and strengthen operational resilience.
