Official OpeningCommunity Destination Kāwaroa
Destination Kāwaroa has opened its second and third stages, featuring new towers, slides, and a flying fox, built through a collaborative public-private partnership.

🛝🌊 A few snaps from Destination Kāwaroa’s opening of stages 2 & 3 (Big Day of Play), with newly added towers, slides, bridges, a variety of swings, exercise equipment, chess boards, flying fox, artwork, and more!

It joins Stage 1 which opened in December 2024 and has been popular ever since, attracting up to 2,000 people per day with its extensive wet play area, slides, swings, sand pit, caves, climbing areas, bike pump track, obstacle course, interactive learning activities, bbq area, toilet block and easy access to the Coastal Walkway and Kāwaroa Reef - all set amongst stunning coastal views next to the Aquatic Centre.

It began as a dream of Bryce Barnett has grown into a collaborative initiative between Taranaki Foundation, Ngāti Te Whiti, NPDC, and NP Partners, showing what can be achieved with an ambitious vision and a well-executed plan based on public-private partnership. A true asset to our community, enjoyed by local families and visitors.
