Taranaki bakeries are experiencing a surge in customers after popular food influencer Kosmos rated several local pie shops during his nationwide tour.

A Fitzroy bakery has seen its pie sales double after catching the attention of a popular New Zealand food influencer.

Content creator Kosmos recently awarded Piccolo Morso a rare 10 out of 10 rating. He praised their mince and double cheese alongside their butter chicken pie during a Matariki Friday visit.

Owners Julia Kaur-Randhawa and Kamal Singh have been incredibly busy ever since, with pie sales doubling.

Kosmos is currently eating his way around the country to build a comprehensive map of the best pies in New Zealand.

Also in Fitzroy, the reviewer visited Euro Deli, giving their mince and double cheese pie a solid 7 out of 10.

Next door at Fitzroy Hot Bread, a standard mince and cheese pie failed to impress the reviewer. He noted it was still edible but it did not score highly.

Acting on strong recommendations from followers, he headed over to Merrilands Bakehouse on day 171 of the nationwide tour.

Their mince and double cheese pie earned a 7.5 out of 10, with Kosmos highly praising the crispy cheese baked onto the top.

His social media followers also pointed him toward Coronation Bakery and Blagdon Hot Bread Bakery.

Coronation Bakery nearly matched the top spot. Their mince and double cheese pie earned 9 out of 10. Kosmos suggested the quality of the pastry and fillings could make it the second-best pie in the city.

At Blagdon Hot Bread Bakery, after initially thinking the pie lacked filling, he discovered a generous amount of cheese hidden beneath the pastry lid and awarded it 7 out of 10.

Piccolo Morso co-owner Kamal Singh feels the sudden online attention has been brilliant for everyone, with the viral reviews driving more customers through local doors and inspiring Taranaki bakers to keep improving their recipes.

Which brings us to today's Discussion of the Day...
