🚧 The Metro Plaza in New Plymouth's CBD is coming down, and the Huatoki Stream underneath will finally see daylight for the first time since 1929 ☀️
We captured some photos of the progress so far. Check them out to see the massive scale of the teardown, including the uncovering of the 100-year-old Oregon pine beams from the original May and Arrowsmith bakehouse (which are thankfully being salvaged!)
This is stage one of the public-private partnership between NPDC, Ngāti Te Whiti, and K.D. Holdings to create a brand new green space, footbridge, and commercial hub connecting Devon and Brougham streets.
But the community appears to be split: Are you excited to see a new vibrant, open-air green space in the New Plymouth CBD, or do you think it's a type of "nice to have" project that shouldn't go ahead in the current economic climate?
Have a look at the photos and let us know your thoughts below 👇
